Winter Sports Starting To Wrap Up

Mustangs Basketball finished the season with an overall record of 12-12 (6-8 in the League) and finished 6th in the CHL. The Mustangs lost in the 2nd round of OHSAA postseason action to Williamsburg. The Mustangs had 3 CHL honors with Senior Ben Reed being named Second Team, along with Junior, Eli Beck, and Freshman, Asaiah Jefferson receiving Honorable Mentions.

Amazons Basketball finished the season with an overall record of 24-2 (14-0 in the League), were crowned CHL Champions and finished as District Runner-Ups. The Amazons received CHL honors for the following: Coach of the Year– Jared Kline, 1st Team– Fiona Ritchie (Sr) and Whitney Dixon (Jr), 2nd Team– Natasha Davis (Sr) and Dee Dee O’Malley (So), Honorable Mentions– Makayla Davenport (Sr) and Grace Kellett (Sr). Whitney Dixon, also received 1st Team SW District Honors.

Mustangs Wrestling finished 3rd in the CHL, 2nd at Sectionals and 14th at Districts. CHL honors went to: 1st Team– Caden Otto (Jr) and Simon Peters (So), 2nd Team– Blake Opichka (Sr), and Honorable Mentions– Chris Davidson (Fr), James Pappas (Jr), and Derek Wallace (Fr). Sectional Placers: Champions– Blake Opichka and Chris Davidson, Runner-Ups– Caden Otto (Jr), Simon Peters (So), and Gibby Schulhoff (Fr), 3rd Place– Derek Wallace (Fr), 4th Place– Tyler Simons (So), and 6th Place– James Pappas (Jr) and Patrick Fallon (So). At Districts the Mustangs had 3 placers: 4th Place– Chris Davidson, 5th Place– Blake Opichka, and 6th Place– Caden Otto. Chris Davidson qualified for the OHSAA State Tournament, which will take place March 13-15 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus. Blake Opichka, qualified as an alternate. Chris Davidson broke the Madeira Wrestling Program’s records for most technical falls in a season (17) and takedowns in a season (150 and counting).

The Competition Cheer squad won the CHL competition and placed 8th at the OASSA State Competition.

Mustangs Bowling finished the season with a 6th place finish in the CHL. Jake Stamm (Jr) received CHL Honorable Mention honors.

Amazons Bowling finished 5th in the CHL. Bowlers Margot Block (Sr) and Aliyah Martin (So) received CHL Honorable Mention honors.

  • 8th place finish at the State Meet
    • Max Welty finished in 10th place in the 200 free
    • Jack Brenner finished 12th in the 100 Backstroke
    • Charlie Hambidge finished 11th in the 100 Breaststroke
    • Max Welty podiumed in 6th place in the 100 Butterfly
    • The 200 freestyle relay team (Schau, Gravlee, Matsudo, Brenner) finished in 11th place
    • The 400 freestyle relay team (Welty, Schau, Matsudo, Brenner) finished on the podium in 6th place
    • The 200 medley relay team (Hambidge, Gravlee, Matsudo, Brenner) finished on the podium in 6th place

OHSAA Postseason is in full swing

Amazons golf won their OHSAA District to qualify for the state tournament. They will play Heatherwoode Golf Course in Springboro on October 6th and 7th. UPDATE: Zon’s end season as Back 2 Back Division II State Runner-Ups, and Ellie Hartung finishes as OHSAA Division II Individual State Runner-Up!

‘Zons tennis player Carolina Soto qualified out of sectionals and will play her district matches on October 9th, 9:00 am, at the Lindner Tennis Center on Mason

Amazons Volleyball will take on the winner of Georgetown and Blanchester in the District Quarterfinals. The ‘Zons game will take place on October 15th (5:00 PM) at Lebanon High High School.

Both Soccer teams drew Norwood for their District Quarterfinal games. The Amazons will play at home on Thursday, October 16th and the Mustangs will play at home on Saturday, October 18th

Cross Country will run the OHSAA District Meet on October 18th, at VOA Park.

Hall of Fame Induction, Dec. 5th

The 2025 Madeira Athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place on Friday, December 5, 2025,
at Madeira High School. A “meet and greet” will start at 4:00 PM, followed by dinner at 5:00
and the induction at approximately 5:45. The new inductees will then be introduced later at the
basketball game that evening.
